>_System Requirements & Compatibility
Last updated: 05.05.2026
This page describes the technical requirements for using Simsala Desktop. Requirements may change with new versions, especially when operating systems, Tauri, WebView components, AI providers, or supported connectors change.
Simsala Desktop is a local desktop app for visual AI workflows. The app stores projects locally in vaults, but uses external AI providers for generation jobs that you connect yourself.
Language version: These legal texts are provided in German and English. In the event of discrepancies, inconsistencies, or questions of interpretation between the German and English version, the German version shall prevail. 1. Supported Operating Systems
Simsala Desktop is provided/supported on the following platforms:
| Platform | Support | Note |
|---|---|---|
| macOS Apple Silicon | Yes | Builds for Apple Silicon are provided. |
| macOS Intel | Yes | Builds for Intel Macs are provided. |
| Windows 64-bit | Yes | Requires Microsoft WebView2 Runtime. |
2. macOS
Simsala Desktop supports:
- Apple Silicon Macs
- Intel Macs
Matching builds are provided for both architectures.
A current macOS version is recommended. Minimum requirements may change by Simsala version.
Additionally required
- Internet connection for licensing, updates, and AI provider use
- Access to macOS Keychain for secure storage of provider secrets and license data
- Own AI provider accounts if generation features are used
3. Windows
Simsala Desktop supports:
- 64-bit Windows
Microsoft WebView2 Runtime is required.
On many Windows systems, WebView2 is already installed. If not, WebView2 Runtime must be installed or made available by the system.
Additionally required
- Internet connection for licensing, updates, and AI provider use
- Access to Windows Credential Manager for secure storage of provider secrets and license data
- Own AI provider accounts if generation features are used
4. Internet Connection
Simsala Desktop is local-first, but not fully offline if you use licensing functions or external AI providers.
An internet connection is required for:
- License activation
- License validation
- License deactivation
- Update checks
- Downloading updates
- Connecting to external AI providers
- Generations via Replicate, fal.ai, Runware, or other supported providers
Local vaults, canvas files, references, and generated outputs are stored locally. External AI generations require provider connectivity.
5. Secure Storage of Credentials
Simsala Desktop uses OS-provided secure storage for secrets and credentials.
By platform this is in particular:
| Platform | Secure Storage |
|---|---|
| macOS | Keychain |
| Windows | Credential Manager |
Stored items may include:
- Provider API keys
- License information
- Activation data
- Technical tokens/secrets required for app functions
Simsala does not store provider API keys on Simsala servers.
6. AI Providers
Simsala Desktop is not an AI provider and does not sell own AI credits.
To run generations, you connect your own provider accounts, for example:
- Replicate
- fal.ai
- Runware
Using external providers requires:
- Your own provider account
- A valid API key
- Sufficient credit or payment method with that provider
- Internet connection
- Acceptance of provider terms
AI provider costs are billed separately via your provider accounts and are not included in Simsala pricing.
7. Local Data and Vaults
Simsala stores project context locally in so-called vaults.
A vault may include:
- Imported assets
- References
- Generated images/videos
- Canvas files
- Connector inbox data
- Connector archives
- Prompts
- Engine settings
- Presets
- Generation metadata
This data is generally stored locally on your device or chosen location.
You are responsible for:
- Backups
- Versioning
- Storage capacity
- Access controls
- Safe storage of confidential project files
8. Connector Compatibility
Simsala may provide connectors or local bridge functions for external design/CAD/DCC tools, in particular:
- Archicad
- Rhino
- SketchUp
- Vectorworks
Availability and compatibility may depend on:
- Operating system
- Host tool version
- Vendor plugin interfaces
- System installation rights
- Security and permission settings
- Changes to third-party interfaces
- Simsala version
Not every connector feature is equally available on every platform.
9. Not Included
Simsala Desktop does not automatically include:
- Local AI model inference
- Local GPU models
- Simsala-owned AI credits
- Provider credits
- Licenses for Replicate, fal.ai, Runware, or other providers
- Licenses for Archicad, Rhino, SketchUp, Vectorworks, or other DCC/CAD tools
- Cloud storage for Simsala projects
- Automatic backups of local vaults
10. Recommended Checks Before Purchase
Before purchase, you should verify:
- Are you using a supported operating system?
- On Windows: is WebView2 Runtime available?
- Is secure storage working on your OS?
- Do you have your own AI provider account?
- Do you have a valid API key?
- Are your required connectors supported on your platform?
- Do you have enough storage for local vaults and generated assets?
- Is internet connectivity stable for provider calls?
11. Changes and Limitations
System requirements and compatibility may change, especially due to:
- New Simsala versions
- Changes to Tauri/WebView components
- Operating-system changes
- External AI provider API changes
- DCC/CAD interface changes
- Connector changes
- Security updates
- Legal or technical requirements
We aim to communicate relevant changes clearly. Continuous compatibility with every version of external third-party software cannot be guaranteed.
